Roey & Zoe
Roey Yohai is an award-winning photojournalist who has been shooting all over the world for the last 18 years. Roey met Zoe Papadopoulos while on assignment in Greece — a few days later they went for an all night drive and now 14 years later they are loving parents of two children and proud partners in Yohai Studios. Theirs is an old fashioned love story in modern times, one that inspires how they see the world and the passion they bring to every aspect of their creative partnership.
Zoe grew up playing every day in her mother’s atelier in the town of Xanthi - in the North of Greece. She studied Economics and later Fashion Styling at the renowned Central Saint Martins in London. Zoe’s interests in business and design inform everything done at Yohai Studios, where she works closely with the creative team and post production experts, to deliver a final set of products that best capture the spirit, warmth and energy of their special day.
Roey is a passionate, charismatic photographer; a tireless seeker of beauty and breathtaking compositions. His distinctive approach is:
Journalistic . Inspired .Cosmopolitan . Effortless .
Born in Israel, and raised in New York City, Roey infuses an international sensibility into every celebration he and his creative team shoot. He developed his photojournalistic style at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Roey then set of to work as a photojournalist covering globally relevant stories like the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece; the Inauguration of President Barack Obama; the conflict in Israel; the Slow Food movement in the Mediterranean region; the beauty and brutality of Spanish bull-fighting; the juxtapositions in Turkey between the vivid night life of Istanbul and the troubled existence of Christian missionaries; Cuba’s daily life - a visually fascinating world.
He has found a true calling photographing weddings for an eclectic New York clientele and has also travelled extensively to shoot across Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Croatia, the Caribbean, Latin America and Japan.
Apart from weddings, Roey and Yohai Studios also photograph galas and events throughout New York. They have shot international political dignitaries, including Presidents, Ministers and Ambassadors in collaboration with the Americas Society/Council of the Americas.
His work has been featured in numerous publications, including Harper’s Bazaar online, Martha Stewart Weddings, Inside Weddings, The Knot, Brides National Edition, and weddings blogs, such as Martha Stewart’s The Bride’s Guide, Always a Blogsmaid, and Style me Pretty. His work can be seen in exclusive websites such as Carats and Cakes, Party Slate, Junebug Weddings, Grey loves Weddings, and Best of Wedding Photography.
Life full of adventure, passion, and love have led Roey and Zoe to this place. “We have chosen the best jobs in the world — the challenges any celebration presents are intriguing; a visual poem that we are called to synthesize - all with a level of trust that is truly inspiring. There are so many whimsical, intimate, and fun moments being shared at every event - conveying these sentiments, these tender glances, with such creativity, inspiration and honesty is what makes our work so authentic and meaningful to us and to our clients.”
Their studio is located upstairs from their home. Literally. It was decided quite purposefully, as their two young boys, their extended family and friends mean the world to them — being able to manage life’s delicate balance is important to who they are and how they want to operate in the world. It also means they can produce exceptional work, stay fresh, and give their very best and never have far to walk for those precious little hugs.
